about

“...stark country-soul and shimmering blues ...a direct line to the heart that showcases her glorious voice “ No Depression

Earlier this year, Lo spent a few months living in the backwoods of the deep South, USA, during an un-ending heatwave, where she rescued an abandoned, battered (and very collectable) old Stella parlor guitar buried between toasters and chairs in a Goodwill on the highway for the grand sum of $4.94, gave it a spit, polish and shine, took it on home and put it to work whipping up a short suite of stark acoustic songs inspired by The Peach State.

Next step was to hire a Mercury and set off on a roadtrip to Nashville, small children in tow, to record the tunes with David Ferguson - aka Ferg, the man behind the desk for all the seminal Johnny Cash American recordings, at the East Nashville Butcher Shoppe studio he co-owns with John Prine.

The results speak for themselves, a rudimentary and beguiling collection of observations from an authentic voice, as still and clear as a hot summer's day in the South.

about

Australian songstress Loene Carmen inhabits ‘an intangible, magical, rarefied space, somewhere between Tom Waits and Dolly Parton’ ... "It’s always been about the voice...beauty and danger, knowing and innocence, sex and longing, and love... torch blues, gothic country, with occasional outbreaks of smoky nightclub... She sings it, you believe her. And that’s enough." (Drum Media) ... more
